HOW TO GET CLEAR SKIN WITHOUT ACNE, FRECKLES AND PIGMENTATION?

Waking up with acne staring back at you from your mirror can be rather frustrating and upsetting!  Yes, this is so true since acne often forms in extremely visible places including the face, neck and the chest.  Acne isn’t just unpleasant, but it can also be very uncomfortable and even painful. This is so when the skin becomes inflamed, it can cause redness, soreness, itching and swollen.

There are many treatments on the market that claim to help you solve this issue.  But what do you do when all your efforts are exhausted and nothing seems to work? Have you ever thought that it could be those harsh chemicals from the creams that you can’t tolerate and even worst, these chemicals might have caused those adverse effects on you?  Over-the-counter prescriptions or skincare products for acne treatments may sometimes cause irritation or inflammation especially if you have sensitive skin.

WHAT IS ACNE

Acne is a skin condition that impacts many people around the world.  It is also one of the most common skin concerns that requires special care and attention and mainly the leading cause for visits to dermatologists every year.  Although most cases develop in adolescence, it can frequently continue into adulthood. Sad to say that acne can affect any age group, and those with post-adolescent acne are increasingly being referred for dermatological care.

There are also different types of acne. The most common types include whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, cysts and nodules.  These common types normally affect only the topmost layer of skin around the follicle, some may be quite deep, example the cystic acne.  Acne vulgaris is the medical name for the common acne.  It is with the presence of blackheads, whiteheads, and other types of pimples on the skin. The most common spots for breakouts are the face, chest, shoulders and back.

WHAT CAUSES ACNE?

In order to understand how to treat acne you need to understand the causes. According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, common beliefs that stress and unhygienic skin causes acne aren’t true.  While the exact causes of acne haven’t been identified, it’s been determined that certain things or habits can trigger acne or make it worse, such as:

🍁 Hormonal changes due to puberty, pregnancy, menstrual cycle and menopause

🍁 Squeezing or pricking at existing pimples

🍁 Cosmetics, such oil-based products, sunscreen, and hair products

🍁 Lack of sleep – sleep deprivation is one of the main causes that triggers acne as this can increase hormonal levels called cortisol which increases stress level and therefore can negatively impact your immune system’s fighting power, which will lead to increased skin problems.

🍁 Medications, such as corticosteroids and anabolic steroids.  Some health conditions may also cause acne or acne-like skin breakout

Acne is caused when there is a disruption with how the skin is supposed to work. Beneath the skin, there are glands that make an oily substance known as sebum. These sebaceous glands are connected to the surface of the skin through the follicles, which also house a single tiny hair that grows out to the skin’s surface. The sebum is supposed to trap dead skin cells and carry them to the surface of the skin for disposal. However due to changes in hormone production inside the body, this will affect how much oil the sebaceous glands produce. Therefore, if there is an increased in the oil produced, the follicle itself will be trapped and blocked with oil. This blockage causes inflammation and will lead to infection and outbreak which is called acne.

HOW TO PREVENT OR REDUCE ACNE NATURALLY?

Dermatologists always say wash your face frequently if you have oily skin or skin which is prone to acne or breakouts.   Maintaining skin hygiene is key here and we would suggest washing your face twice a day is good enough but more if you have been sweating or after a workout.  The skincare that you use be sure that they will not clog pores, oil free, non-acnegenic/comedogenic.

Do not rub face harshly and if you do have an existing pimple, do refrain from squeezing, pricking or popping it. Pimples are stubborn.  You may be thinking this could be the fastest way to cure it, but unfortunately you are only making it worse.  Once you prick it, the pimple will not only take a longer time to heal and even it does, a scar or mark will be left behind.

Some people believe that food such as spicy food, dark chocolates, food containing high sugar content or sweets and excessive use of milk products may worsen acne.  We feel that this will depend on individual’s food intolerance and reaction.

Concisely, we were taught from young that drinking lots of water and adding fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet is good for your skin. You are what you eat, this old cliche still stay when it comes to your skin and health. Doctors have also concluded that nutrition plays an important role in skin health, and that vitamins for acne should not be overlooked such as Vitamin C, B, Zinc, Fish Oil and the list goes on.

HOW TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS FOR ACNE

Because essential oils are concentrated plant chemicals, they can cause allergic reaction, therefore, you should never put them directly onto your face undiluted.  Just a few drops can have incredible benefits. Do read the instructions carefully before applying any essential oil to your skin as you might need to dilute it with a “carrier oil,” which is usually an unscented, mild plant oil such as jojoba or coconut oil. You could also dilute it with your lotion or cream. You may try it as a spot treatment by placing a drop on the end of a cotton swab and dabbing lightly onto your blemishes. This can be quite effective but it can also dry the skin so it is important to follow up with a moisturizer.

Another safe and common method of using essential oil on acne skin is to include a mild toner such as tea tree hydrosol or witch hazel hydrosol, to be applied gently before an oil treatment.  This will enhance the efficacy of the oil by allowing more effective absorption and at the same time helps to cleanse and freshen up the skin.

You can even try some DIY method at home which could help without having to turn to skin doctors for your acne problem.  For a start, you can intensify your daily face wash or toner.  Add 2-3 drops of essential oil for acne to refresh and soothe your skin.  You can also do the same for your face lotion.  You can even try making your own roll-on blend.  Mix 4 drops of essential oil for acne to jojoba oil and fill this up into a 10 ml of glass roller bottle. Apply directly to your acne or blemishes as needed.  However, if other parts of the body are affected by acne, you can add a few drops of essential oil to your bath to enjoy the maximum benefits.

As a general rule of thumb, it is always safe to combine your essential oils with carrier oils such as jojoba oil or grapeseed oil in order to effectively dilute it without hindering its efficacy. This dilution process will also help to minimize irritation, just in case.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TURMERIC ON SKIN?  HOW CAN TURMERIC HELP IN GETTING CLEAR SKIN WITHOUT ACNE?

Turmeric, an ancient beauty ingredient, is also an Ayurvedic medicine for treatment of inflammatory conditions. Being a member of the ginger family, you will probably know that turmeric is one of the main spices in our curry dish. And even up till today, Indian brides and grooms are ritually covered in a turmeric paste for a pre-ceremony glow. Since turmeric is known for its medicinal and antiseptic properties, an application of this ingredient before marriage would ensure that the bride and groom are blessed with radiant skin. And turmeric helps to get rid of dead cells and detoxifies the skin once the turmeric paste is rinsed off after the ceremony. Well, this has really proven that turmeric has so much benefits to offer.

When it comes to turmeric powder, using of turmeric for skin and food are two types of turmeric.  The one that is used for cosmetic and skincare is known as Wild Turmeric which is botanically called as Curcuma Aromatica whilst Regular Turmeric is used for food which is botanically called as Curcuma Longa.  Before applying turmeric on your face, we advise you to first do a patch test on your arms to see if your skin reacts to it. Wait for a day and if no reactions develop, then it is pretty safe to use it on your face.

Turmeric is said to minimize skin irritation, rashes, itching, swelling and inflammation.  It also helps restore hydration and gives the needed moisture for skin affected with drying and scaling caused by eczema. This age-old ingredient is loaded with anti-oxidants, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory components which help treat a number of skin concerns such as acne, acne scars, pigmentation, aging skin, sun damaged skin, just to name a few.

Curcumin, which is the bio-active compounds found in turmeric has serious benefits that can brighten the skin, improve the skin’s texture, and rejuvenate dull-looking skin.  Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, turmeric heals wound and reduces scars. You can apply turmeric paste on the wound as it will soothe the skin and help in healing in no time. On top of all these it is also used for treating acne, helps prevents wrinkles, removes dull skin, lightens pigmentation and promote glowing skin. From pigmentation to acne, turmeric is a miracle ingredient for your skin.

Turmeric has powerful antioxidant and anti-aging qualities, and therefore, it can be greatly used in treatment to help fight against signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines, retain skin elasticity, expedite and stimulate the growth of new skin cells, reduce wrinkles and protect your skin from the damaging effects of oxidation. You can even make an anti-aging mask at home by adding half a teaspoon of turmeric to one tablespoon of honey or milk and apply this on your face and wash it off after 15 minutes.

So how does this super yellow powder actually work to help resolve acne breakouts? Its active ingredients, the curcuminoids, can effectively fight off the underlying causes of skin inflammation and keep the bacteria from spreading.  Its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antiseptic and antibacterial properties reduce the redness and swelling of the blemish and also speeds the healing process which can help with larger, open blemishes.  To DIY your own spot treatment using turmeric, try mixing equal parts turmeric and with lemon or cucumber juice and applying a little on your blemishes for 20 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

When you start using turmeric for acne, you may see results right away, but some people reported that it took them a while or so before noticing improvements.  Turmeric has positive research backing its ability to reduce inflammation and speed healing, which is beneficial for both medical and cosmetic purposes and with frequent use, turmeric can clear acne issues and restore your healthy glowing skin !

DOES TURMERIC CLEAR DARK SPOTS OR PIGMENTATION ?  DOES TURMERIC LIGHTEN SKIN ?

If you’re prone to working late, your tired-looking bags and dark circles under your eyes can be very apparent. There might be plenty of products on the market claiming to reduce the appearance of these dark spots but then again, the chemical ingredients might not be suitable for you especially the skin below your eyes area is extremely soft and delicate.  You may consider turmeric powder as it is proven an anti-inflammatory and lightening agent, and is perfect for alleviating this kind of concern.  Its antioxidant properties have the capacity to brighten skin, including stubborn under-eye circles and dark spots. It can also reduce the puffiness and enhance circulation around the eyes.

You can mix ¼ tsp. turmeric powder with 1 tbsp of honey alone or you even add another ½ tbsp of fresh lemon juice. Apply this paste on your face and pay more attention to your dark circles. Leave it for 15-20 mins and rinse. Follow this regime every night before going to sleep and your will see fruitful results in no time.

Turmeric can deeply moisturize, hydrate, regenerate and revitalize skin while at the same time remove dead skin cells and protects the existing good skin cells to reveal healthy and soft skin.  Its antioxidative power enables to improve the function of the skin membrane cells, which will help prevent and treat stretch marks or help lighten their appearance.

The main active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin which has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  Curcumin helps reduce excess production of melanin which in turn lightens scars and keeps even the skin tone. Using turmeric along with other moisturizing ingredients such as milk or honey will help improve your skin complexion.

Probably after battling breakouts is living with the dreadful scars or dark spots they leave behind. Thankfully, you have turmeric to help you here.  Turmeric contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which help to even skin tone and lighten scars and is also a good remedy for hyper-pigmentation and acne scars.  In this aspect you need to use along with other moisturizing lotion or cream to help improve your skin complexion.

CAN WE USE TURMERIC ON OUR FACE EVERY DAY?

Using turmeric alone can leave a yellow stain on your skin and clothing. It is, therefore, ideal to mix it with other natural, skin-loving ingredients or you can even mix a small amount with your mask or night cream. Leave the mask on for about 10 minutes before rinsing. Do rinse thoroughly with warm water and follow up with desired toner, serum, and moisturizer. Avoid leaving on overnight, as turmeric has the tendency to stain your skin especially if you have lighter coloured skin. If necessary, you can try washing your face with milk, if there is some staining from this yellow spice.

Though it has been mentioned that it is safe to apply turmeric powder on your face daily, how often you apply will of course depend on how much turmeric is mixed into the formula, how often you use and your skin type. Adding a turmeric mask to your weekly self-care routine is great, however, we don’t recommend masking every single day.  Stick to the normal regimen of 1-2 times a week is good enough to enjoy the benefits.
